Finalized Artist Statement

My artwork utilizes pen and ink and ballpoint pen; a particular favorite medium of mine. My artwork is an embodiment of my perceptions of the world around me. This includes my bizarre fascinations of music, fashion, insects, and nature. I constantly look to Aubrey Beardsely as a historical reference of pen and ink work and am example of a modern pen and ink artist is Caitlin Hackett.
I strive to keep my ideas fresh and new like a stream of consciousness; for example, if I happen to be listening to the music of Björk or David Bowie, they will manifest in my drawing. Delicacy of death is difficult to capture. At the millisecond trouble arises, chaos is instantaneous. I want to study and work through those momentous events in a pen and ink drawing. Through this, I will render details of real life juxtaposed with my imaginary life. Some drawings will reveal pleasant, luscious outdoor scenes riddled with flora, fauna, and unusual creatures; while other drawings may depict the aftermath of war. I draw insects that interact with humanoids, strange creatures that crawl behind dead trees, and lovely ladies dressed in outrageous fashions!
I hope to accomplish a narrative of my own imagination on large pieces of paper that will warp the viewer to my realm. I want to think of my pen and ink drawings like a painting, but removed of the paint and color. The drawing of the pen lines are a finalized artwork without the need for color. The ballpoint pen pieces would never need color due to the mediums delicate shades. I have been told that ballpoint pen will fade and discolor overtime, yet I am never dissuaded from the use of this medium. Perhaps this is the reason I draw insects with ballpoint pen. The insects are dead and the temporary beauty of the drawing will loose its original quality and therefor symbolically die. I do not fret the drawings future, I welcome it.
